Carbon Monoxide.. are you at risk!!

Ok.. who is tired of this cold weather? I am.. for sure!!! As Albertans.. we are used to this type of weather, but it does not come with just cold climates. Carbon monoxide has definitely poked its ugly head again. This time in parkades, and in people’s homes. Do you have a CO detector in your home? Does it work? When was the last time you checked it? When was the last time you checked it with a known CO source to ensure the sensor was working properly? If you answered.. I am unsure or did not do it.. then you are not alone. But this practise is and could be dangerous. PLEASE have your CO devices checked and minimize the risks by taking simple precautions. The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation has put out a very interesting set of things a home owner could do to eliminate the risk of CO in the home. Have you ever wondered how we can impact someone else life? Did it ever occur to you, that we can make a difference in other peoples lives. If you don’t think so, well think again!! Interesting idea that we can play a role in making someone’s day or be the cause of someones demise. Either way you look at it.. we should be diligent and considerate to others so that we have a positive impact on our fellow human beings.. Anything less, and we may have to live with the knowledge that we could have made a difference.. but didn’t for whatever reason!!

Ok.. I have been thinking.. is your attitude on day to day issues play a role in ones ability to get injury either at home or at work? I think so.. what about you? Do we take chances with our health by what we think, act and say? Perhaps and if so, then maybe safety is not something we just “think” about but rather is something we should do on all aspects of our lives. To disregard the possibility of our attitude effecting our potential to get injured could be disastrous. I for one.. don’t want to take that chance!!!

Is a Hazard a risk? If you said that they are one in the same.. then unfortunately.. you would be wrong. Don’t feel bad.. a lot of folks don’t know the difference. In fact.. there is a disconnect here, some folks feel that if they manage hazards at the workplace, then they have also managed risk!!

Please don’t be fooled.. managing risk is quite a different thing. Failure to manage risk could result in a loss and no body wants that!!!

Be sure to look at both when you develop your health & safety cultures..
